Emerging Hong Kong artist Vivian Ho presents her solo exhibition “We Could Start Over”, showcasing a series of new work that brings to your attention some of the mundane living elements of Hong Kong. Recording these settings we find so familiar onto paper with pastels, poster color and color pencils, Ho glorifies these mundane sceneries giving them color and interest.

LingerInspired by renowned film director Wong Kar-Wai, most of Ho’s work for this exhibition comes with a caption directly quoted from Wong’s film. “We Could Start Over”, the title of this exhibition was taken from one of Wong’s film “Happy Together”, in the film the character played by Leslie Cheung repeats the phrase “We Could Start Over” on several occasions.

“Kung Fu”, a pastel & postercolor on paper piece complimented with a quote from Wong’s recent film “The Grandmaster”, combines the scenery of an old man practicing Tai Chi, something we would see in Hong Kong almost every morning, with a line from the martial related film. Taking the film quotes out of context and putting them aside her work, Ho’s work brings a new point of view to the spoken lines in Wong’s work.Kung Fu

“Everything Expires”, a piece that depicts a man drinking from a mug typically used tea restaurant, has a touch of surrealism. The piece is presented in a simple format, which allows the audience to fully absorb the ideas behind the piece. The accurate representation the piece has to our current life makes us realize just how much of the little details we ignore in life.Everything Expires

The exhibition will be up until the 30th of January at Artify gallery.
