This year marks the 50th anniversary of Marimekko’s most iconic pattern, Unikko, the story behind this pattern teaches us to let our creativity free and encourages us to step towards our dreams and goals. For 50 Years this classic and iconic pattern has changed the colors of our wardrobe with its neveredning variations. Each variation represents a different time in our life, the people we once spent time with and the many hurdles we have overcome to get to where we are now.

The pattern was created in 1964, after Armi Ratia, the company’s founder, announced that there will be no flower patterns on Marimekko fabrics. Designer Maija Isola stood firm in her ideas and created the first Unikko pattern which eventually became an irreplaceable classic in the brand.
