MARC JACOBS Spring/Summer 2014

SS14 MARC JACOBS Press Presentation (3)Marc Jacobs held its spring summer 2014 ready-to-wear presentation at Blue Butcher in Sheung Wan, taking guests to the grey, weathered urban shipwreck beach in the 1890s where worn cups, littered cigarette butts, and destroyed fashion magazines can be seen on the black sand, all in dim and blue mood.

However, Marc Jacobs described it as an unspoken dark romance which is both intriguing and sensual. “It’s more of a weird frat party, burning man, shores-of-Gotham city sort of beach scene. It’s a lovely nightmare, or it was for me anyway,” he said.

On the latest spring summer 2014 collection, Marc Jacobs expressed that he didn’t want any repetition or cliche of spring and summer, instead he wanted a larger space about working outfits such as Victorian gown and Birkenstocks. “I don’t have one friend who dresses in all white,” he added.

During the runway show, four models including Ana R and Mikki Yao floated by with richly embroidered dresses in murky shades of pine green merlot and midnight blue. Plus, the puff sleeves, high collars and tassels on mannish jackets add a touch of retro style. Dominant tones for this season is black, navy, bottle green and brown with white and red floral prints occasionally on it. In terms of footwear, glittering sandals and suede moccasins replaced the contemporary sportswear, reflecting the unrestrained and rebel image of Marc Jacobs.
